Conducted in the Fethiye district of Muğla, the Telebehi Archaeological Survey examines the region’s historical and cultural heritage through scientific methods, building an important bridge between the past and the future.
Celebrated every year on 27 September, World Tourism Day reminds us of tourism’s contribution to intercultural exchange, local values and sustainable development. On this special day, we take a closer look at the Telebehi Archaeological Survey and set out to discover not only the natural beauty of the destinations we visit, but also their history and cultural heritage.
What is the Telebehi Archaeological Survey?
Fethiye, one of the key centres of ancient Lycia, has been home to different cultures and civilisations throughout history. Today, extensive scientific studies are being carried out to examine in greater detail the past of the region known as Telebehi in antiquity.
The Telebehi (Hıdırlık Hill–Karapınar Area) Archaeological Survey is being conducted in Fethiye with the permission of the Republic of Türkiye Ministry of Culture and Tourism, under the direction of Assistant Professor İrem Albayraktaroğlu Göktaş.
The team, which includes Turkish and international researchers from a range of disciplines, systematically examines traces of settlement, architectural remains and archaeological finds in the region, with the aim of shedding light on Telebehi’s historical development. The diverse academic backgrounds of the international team members also contribute to a multifaceted assessment of the findings.
